Speaker: Deidre McCalla

Deidre McCalla is an American folk singer-songwriter, known for her powerful, honest voice and deeply personal songs. Born and raised in New York City, she emerged from the vibrant folk scene there, releasing her first album Fur Coats & Blue Jeans while still a student.

Over the decades she has been an influential figure in women’s music, especially as a Black, lesbian, feminist artist. Her work combines political consciousness, emotional depth, and lyrical nuance.

Her recent album Endless Grace dominated the Folk Radio Charts in June 2022, with songs like “Shoulder to the Wheel” and “I Do Not Walk This Path Alone” earning critical acclaim and awards.
