Speaker: Rev. Dawn Martin

Rev. Dawn Martin is the Minister of Mission Outreach and Engagement at Hinton Rural Life Center, joining the staff in August 2016. She moved to the mountains of Hayesville, NC from a small town in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio. Dawn has worked with people in poverty for more than 20 years and is a certified trainer through Bridges Out of Poverty, both Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid, and is a Resiliency Champion. She also facilitates the Narrative4 Story Exchange. Dawn is an ordained deacon in The United Methodist Church. She has a passion for helping people consider their own perspective and have a better understanding of what it might be like to walk in someone else’s shoes. Dawn enjoys spending time with her husband Aaron, their two “furry kids” (dogs), reading, coffee, and creative dabblings such as acrylic and watercolor painting, playing the ukulele, writing, and crocheting.

From Reaction to Relationship

Our perspective matters. It shapes how we see the world around us. We’ll consider how we see others and look through a lens of rural life, including empathy, mental health, resiliency, and poverty (which is more than just about the money!).
